"Without a doubt, Dr. Goodman changed not only my relationship to classical voice, but the trajectory of my career."

IMG_0437.jpg

Without a doubt, Dr. Goodman changed not only my relationship to classical voice, but changed
the trajectory of my career. When I began studying voice with Dr. Goodman in high school, she
helped me to discover my passion and talent for opera and classical singing. Incredibly
knowledgeable and experienced, she provided me with foundational techniques that have
supported me throughout school and into my budding professional career. Her expertise and
teaching style perfectly suited me as a young singer, and she encouraged my passion for singing
in a way that no other teacher had. I can attest that she is supportive, inspiring, and brings out the
best in any student. My time studying with Dr. Goodman was truly foundational to my career as an artist and musician.

"From the first note she sang, I was hooked!"

IMG_3698_edited.jpg

I’ve known Sadie Goodman since February, 2010 when composer K. Lee Scott introduced us and suggested she sing a solo part in our 2nd Festival of Sacred Music. From the first note she sang, I was hooked! She embraced Over the Mountain Festivals when it was a fledgling local community choral group and continues to collaborate with us.
Our guest clinicians are thrilled to have her sing under their baton. Our chorus considers her as one of their own and our audiences love to hear her. When asked, “Where did you find her?”, I simply say, “She’s my friend.”
Her voice will captivate all who have the privilege to hear her. Sadie’s disciplined approach to preparation, her warm sense of humor, and humble spirit will have colleagues and audiences begging for more.

Philip Capra, Executive Director of Over the Mountain Festival

Working with Sadie has been one of the great joys of my musical life. Her technique is impeccable, her musical understanding very profound, and the distinctive timbre of her voice instantly captivating. She combines precision, elegance, and emotional depth in a way that elevates every performance.

"Not only does she have an instrument of great beauty, but she backs it up with a strong sense of professionalism."

Lyric soprano, Sadie Goodman, as a performer walks on the world stage. Not only does she have an instrument of great beauty, but she backs it up with a strong sense of professionalism. As a soloist, she commands a wide variety of musical styles ranging from Baroque and Classical Era arias to African-American Spirituals. Also comfortable with ensemble singing, she handles composers ranging from the Renaissance to the modern era with ease and understanding. I recently worked with her on a recording project of my own anthems for which she was the only soprano. Of the seven or so pieces we recorded,  only one take was necessary in each case. That was extraordinary. Sadie could sing anywhere.

"Dr. Sadie Goodman helped me achieve my dream of earning a degree in vocal performance."

IMG_8925.jpg

When I decided to return to college as an adult, Dr. Sadie Goodman helped me achieve my dream of earning a degree in vocal performance. Under her direction at Judson College, I was able to develop my tone, breathing techniques, diction and pronunciation while correcting some life-long bad habits I had developed. Dr. Goodman helped me prepare for my junior and senior recitals which were sung in several languages. I have previously sung with Dr. Goodman at Carnegie Hall and in Santo Spirito Church in Florence, Italy under Dr. Terre Johnson. Her instruction and encouragement have been immeasurable to me as a singer and life-long student of music and vocal performance.

"Dr. Goodman’s dedication to our daughter has prepared her for a career in musical theatre or as a classical vocalist."

IMG_6094_edited.jpg

I have known Dr. Sadie Frazier Goodman for more than 15 years. I have watched her develop and train as a vocalist throughout those years. Dr. Goodman has been our daughter’s (Mason) voice teacher for the past four years. As Mason was growing up, her previous voice teacher advised us to seek a female voice teacher as her voice began to mature. Upon his advice, we sought out Dr. Goodman. One of the very first things that we were pleased to hear from Dr. Goodman was her plan to teach Mason to sing in a manner in which she would not stress or strain her young voice. We had no idea what it meant to be classically trained but we did know that our daughter had a talent and we wanted it developed in the best possible way. Dr. Goodman was just what our daughter needed and more! Dr. Goodman worked well with Mason, was patient and kind to her as she trained her to sing the correct way. But more than just training our daughter, she was a friend and a wonderful advisor and mentor. Dr. Goodman was genuinely and sincerely invested in Mason’s development as a vocalist. Dr. Goodman gave excellent advice and direction to Mason and to us, her parents, as we navigated this “new” world of classical singing and musical theatre. Dr. Goodman’s dedication to our daughter has prepared her for a career in musical theatre or as a classical vocalist. Multiple colleges have reaffirmed Mason’s readiness (and even her advanced vocal abilities) for the next steps in college. Mason was perfectly prepared to walk into her college auditions and have a great showing! We could not have been at this place without Dr. Sadie Frazier Goodman!

"She challenges me and has high expectations, but also makes the lessons fun."

As an adult learner, it was important that I find a voice teacher who would challenge me but understand I won't be singing at Carnegie Hall. Dr. Sadie Goodman is a perfect teacher for my needs. She challenges me and has high expectations, but also makes the lessons fun. I have seen a remarkable improvement in the quality and range of my voice in the months I have been working with Sadie, which I attribute to her outstanding instruction and my hard work. I would highly recommend Dr. Goodman as a voice teacher.

"Her instruction instilled immeasurable confidence in myself"

IMG_9949.jpg

When I was in high school, I discovered a passion for singing classically through my choir director Margaret Heron. I knew I wanted to pursue music in college, but I didn't know the audition process, how to prepare, and definitely did not have a refined technique for singing. My director connected me with Dr. Goodman, who provided audition pieces to best fit my vocal range and voice type. She provided me with singing fundamentals that transformed my voice into something I never expected it to be. After receiving the first voice lessons of my life, I went on the audition at several schools and received offers of over $275,000 in scholarships. I chose to continue on to Judson College so I could continue receiving private instruction from Dr. Goodman, where I went on to place in major competitions in my first year, such as the National Association of Teachers Singing, as well as earn spots in college Honor Recitals. Her instruction instilled immeasurable confidence in myself and I still use the techniques taught to me nearly a decade later in all of my professional singing opportunities.

"She has a thorough understanding of technique, explains concepts in a concise and easy to understand way"

IMG_4084.JPG

Although I have studied voice and sung professionally for over ten years, I recently began to take lessons with a variety of voice teachers around the Southeast to try to get some extra help resolving tension issues. I was fortunate to have Sadie recommended to me by Stephen Smith of Northwestern University (who was recommended to me by Joyce DiDonato). I found Sadie to be extremely helpful in diagnosing and correcting the problems which contributed to my tension issues. She has a thorough understanding of technique, explains concepts in a concise and easy to understand way, and is very creative in finding multiple different ways to approach issues. Sadie puts a lot of effort into her teaching, and she is also an encouraging and fun person to work with! I highly recommend Sadie as a voice teacher! In my experience, she’s one of the best!

Dr. Goodman is a consummate professional and a valued colleague. Whether she is singing as the soprano soloist with our choir, teaching one of our singers individual voice lessons, or we are collaborating on a smaller scale, her talent and collegiality are always on display. She is my first call in the Birmingham area and I feel privileged to have her as a peer and friend.
